The commitment the Better Foundation has giving back to our community, is what first drew the Blacktown Workers Club Group (BWCG) to now an even better relationship between the Club and Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals.

Better Foundation was created in 2016 to support Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals. Both Hospitals are teaching Hospitals associated with the School of Medicine, Western Sydney University.

They continue each year to raise vital funds for state-of-the-art equipment, world’s best practice research and advanced education for all clinical staff: medical, nursing, and allied health.

Their vision is to give our community the very best in quality local healthcare, with a goal, bit by bit to make Blacktown & Mount Druitt Hospitals better.

The BWCG has a history of donations prior to the partnership with Better Foundation, such as the Echocardiogram also known as the Echo Machine donated to Blacktown Hospital in 2013 and the ECG Cardiograph in 2014 together valuing over $180,000.

Since then the BWCG has assisted Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals through the Better Foundation with Parent Education Programs, Rehab Medical Equipment and Fibroscan Machines.

2019 the Club hosted the very successful Better Foundation Spring Gala Fundraiser where over $25,000 was raised for the much-needed equipment at both hospitals.

More recently, in 2020, the BWCG donated over $47,000 towards a CTG Machine (foetal heart rate monitor) which will decrease adverse incidents with birthing, a Portable Telemetry Monitor which will provide continuous monitoring of a patients cardiac activity including heart rate, rhythm and electrical activity of the heart which can then play a key role in the diagnosis of acute cardiac problems. What we know about COVID-19 is that it is primarily evident in elderly patients and is further complicated in patients with cardiovascular disease.

The funds also went towards an Accu-Vein Scanner which is an ultrasound vein finder to administer infusions of chemotherapy to cancer patients. Without this scanner, treatments could not be administered. Prior to the BWCG involvement patients would be transferred to other hospitals for the treatments.

In November 2020, part of the funds went to the refurbishment of the Mother’s Room at Mount Druitt Hospital. The money will completely change the face of this area with a comfortable (and infection controlled) nursing chair, change table, tea and coffee making facilities, sink, swipe access and a TV for entertaining mums while they settle their babies (which can often take quite a while).

“The Better Foundation is extremely grateful for every dollar the Blacktown Workers Club Group have donated. We appreciate the support and we are very excited to have a partner that is as committed as us to helping our community” Says Nermeen Yacoub – CEO Better Foundation.

The Blacktown Workers Club Group is dedicated to helping the Blacktown and Greater Western Sydney community and with the help of organisations such as the Better Foundation, the Club will keep striving forward to a better future.
